There are several events happening on any given day including regional and local theater shows, art exhibits and craft shows. Summer brings the area car show, the wildly popular BBR (Braun Brothers Reunion) and for a western flavor there are rodeos and county fairs. Sportsmen will enjoy the Bayhorse ATV events and Steelhead Derby. Winter events include Christmas concerts, Parade of Lights, and the annual town tree lighting. 

The area offers several events throughout the year including festivals, river days, rallies, tours , and the Lemhi and Custer County Fairs and so much more!

Challis truly is a Wilderness Gateway with access to the Frank Church River of No Return, the largest wilderness in the lower 48. River trips, golf, bird watching, hunting, fishing, rock hounding, and more can all be found in the area 

Fishing is open virtually year round in Salmon River Country. Rainbow, Cutthroat, Brook and Steelhead Trout are the most plentiful species found in nearby lakes and streams, although many other species are also found.

Lemhi County has one of the largest elk herds in the West, as well as Whitetail and Mule Deer, Black Bear, Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goat, Antelope, Cougar and Moose
